Volunteering & COVID – 19

For the majority of my adult life, I have volunteered my time to industry associations, sporting clubs, community services and charities.
At present, I am the proud Queensland Chairperson where last week we cancelled and postponed several events including our premium fundraising event the Gala Ball that was to be held in Brisbane on June 20th. WaterAid is run by a small staff and a large number of volunteers who like me have personally invested a significant amount of time, passion, emotion and money into the NFP charity.
For those unfamiliar with WaterAid, it is the water sectors charity of choice but is not limited to the water sector. WaterAid raises funds via many events each year across Australia and around the globe. The funds raised go to help build safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene to developing communities in neighbours such as PNG, Timor Leste, Cambodia etc. Safe reliable drinking water & sewerage systems are the basics of modern civilization, over 750m people around the globe are still denied these most basic of services. The benefits to these communities are education, health, safety, security, economic prosperity and much more.
WaterAid and its beneficiaries are yet another casualty of COVID-19, that in tandem with a lack of hygiene facilities are potentially going to have a devastating effect on our closest neighbours.
Thank you to our wonderful WaterAid staff, committee and ambassadors who volunteer their time.
